Since Amuro started the top 5 list posts I decided to finish off the spring season with the top 5 best anime. This season was actually filled with a lot of great anime because I found making this list quite difficult. It hurt me when I realized I couldn’t add every show that I have been enjoying.

5. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

Try not to laugh when they are all shouting at the end. I found it difficult.

Despite the ridiculously long name, Ano Hana was a short and very powerful series. While I wasn’t as emotional as some, the series did a really good job of jarring emotions from all who watched it. The story and plot were wonderfully concise and it was very original. It wasn’t just the story that made this series powerful. The characters of Ano Hana provide a great balance between each other. Even the characters you might not think would have much range will surprise you.

4. Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko

Probably the cutest futon ever.

This anime was the break out hit of the spring season to me. I am a fan of shaft, but I was more focused on Maria Holic Alive and let this one pass me by. After I watched it for the spring preview I was instantly in love with the anime. The main character and unique style of shaft is wonderfully delivered. It does remind me a lot like Bakemonogatari, which is one of my all time favorite anime, but it offers more of a slice of life feel to it and I really like the scifi style to it.

3. Hanasaku Iroha

Don't provoke some people, they can be dangerous.

Ohana is probably one of the best female leads of the spring season. She is instantly likable and harbors a lot of depth to her character. The supporting cast also does a good job to bring out her character, while still having an interesting amount of depth to themselves. The story is also handled very well, giving a good amount of drama, romance, and slice of life feeling to it. I really like the rokkan vibe this series brings. It is only half way through so I am highly anticipating what the second half brings.

2. The World God Only Knows II

Much like the top 5 guys list, my anger and resentment of Keima still exists.

I was a big fan of the first season, but season two does a much better job of bringing drama and complexity to the series. Keima’s character in season one had very little depth. He completed the conquests with very little challenge and the plot was driven more by the heroines. This season we have a much more dynamic mix, which not only challenged Keima, but caused a lot of character development. It made me more excited about future seasons, which we all know is on its way and hopefully soon.

1. Gintama’

Oh, snap. You dead now.

It might be obvious by now, but I am a big Gintama fan. This season has done a lot to make me like it even more. The current Four Divas arc has been great and the ending made my skin tingle. I won’t go on much more since I am always telling people how awesome Gintama is, but it really is the perfect combination of story, characters, action, drama, and comedy. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will feel good after watching it. If you haven’t seen Gintama yet, you really need to start now.
