I went through a couple of summaries before I decided on the one that you just read above. I picked this one because it was succinct. Dude meets mysterious girl; dude must date said girl. The character designs seem kind of wacky in a generic anime sort of way, and the premise doesn’t immediately jump at me. Hopefully the main relationship will be strong enough to carry this show.

#Synopsis
A modern fantasy based on Japanese Shinto legends. Suzuhara Izumiko is a 15-year-old girl, who has been raised and protected in a shrine deep in the Kumano mountains. She is shy and destroys all the electronic devices she touches. When she begins to think about moving to the city, her guardian, Sagara Yukimasa, recommends she enters a high school in Tokyo, while forcing his son Miyuki to serve Izumiko for life. Miyuki and Izumiko repel each other, but their relationship begins to change when an accident occurs on the school field trip. Izumiko learns her fate as the last representative of a Himegami goddess and Miyuki learns of his duty as a guardian Yamabushi of Izumiko.

P.A. Works is back after taking a couple seasons off. I feel like their animation work and settings are some of the most detailed you’ll see in anime today and I feel that way about what I’ve seen in RDG’s PV trailer. Also, the character designs seemed quite similar to Hanasaku Iroha, proven in that Mel Kishida did original character designs for both series, and his characters have a certain sheen that can fit such pretty environments. The premise seems pretty interesting after you get past the “transfers into high school” trope, and judging from the trailer, the term “modern fantasy” seems applicable to what this show can be like.

#Thoughts
I admit initial confusion after watching the trailer as to whether I thought this can be something of interest or something to drop fast. These shows with pretty boys never seem to want to earn interest from forming an interesting story filled with engaging characters, but being in a criminal situation and making an organization themed off a circus seems like it could be fun times. However, I’m done giving benefit of the doubt to Manglobe, and bringing in Mashiro-Iro’s director (Eiji Suganuma) and Amnesia’s scriptwriter (Touko Machida) is a double-dose of no thanks from me.

Wow, this anime looks like it could be hilarious! I don’t see a lot of new comedies this season that peak my interest, but this one might be able to fit my needs. I am a bit unsure how funny this will be, but just thinking about the nonsense of a Devil King having to work at McDonald’s is just pretty damn funny. Hopefully this will be good for some laughs and maybe a decent action scene or two.

Oh hey, more mecha this season. Sweet. Wait, is that…SAME FACE HIRAI!? So I think my disdain for Gundam SEED is well documented, and a big part of that disdain was character designer Hisahi Hirai. Now, I won’t immediately write this show off because of that, but it’s a big knock against it right from the start for me. Oh well, it all comes down to how the animators portray them, and if the story and mecha action can prove to be good, then it’s something I might be able to look past.

I can tell you right now that I picked this show because of how ridiculous the premise is. Beyond that, I have no idea what to expect. The studio behind this has done a few shows I enjoyed (Oda Nobuna’s Ambition and One of Them Is My Sister!) but then again they made A-Channel which I could not stand. This one could go either way.

By the premise, you might be thinking this will be something fun like OreShura. If you’re expecting that, you will be sorely disappointed. Zexcs is known for doing more offbeat fun anime like Bentou and Cuticle Detective, and I have enjoyed them quite a bit, but this is a deep psychological anime. That is kind of new for Zexcs, which has me a bit worried, but it has good source material from what Ive heard. I am pretty sure I am going to love this anime. I tend to enjoy these kinds of more twisted psychological anime.
