Action, Comedy, Slice of Life

Cute, anthropomorphised rifles? Sure, why the hell not? This show is being animated by Xebec and has character design done by the same guy who did Kanokon and Ladies vs Butlers. If you weren’t fond of those shows or how they looked and were super fanservicey, then Upotte is likely not for you, but as someone that did enjoy both those shows, I have another series to look forward to from this season. Hopefully Upotte will be just as revealing as Ladies vs Butlers was with its fan service.
Shounen, Comedy, Sports

I remember The Knight in the Area from last season, so I’m in a weird combination of being hesitant toward another soccer show on the heels of a crappy one, but also forgiving in that Ginga e Kickoff shouldn’t have to live in the shadow of generic shounen sports anime. This football show seems more geared toward a younger audience and there are girl soccer players featured on the site, so maybe it’s going to be a co-ed team? Oh hey look, one of the One Piece directors is here, Uda Konosuke. Movie 4 “Dead End” was decent, Movie 7 was babe-alicious. That’s all. Guy does OP, good for him. Won’t affect my view of Kickoff.
Comedy, Romance, Drama

There is something about the description that just catches my attention. I don’t think I am quite perverse enough to taste the drool of another person, but the idea is kind of intriguing. Having it start off like that has me pretty interested in seeing where this quaky romance-comedy goes. I read a bit of the first chapter to see what it was like and I am not too sure I am sold on the main characters yet, but I still want to check it out. The art it particularly dated. It has a late 80’s early 90’s feel to it. The anime stays pretty faithful to the style as well. That might be somewhat of a drawback to the anime and might turn some people off. I feel like there still is enough to get me to at least give it a shot. I think this anime has potential to be good, but I don’t think it will stand out too much from other romance-comedies.
Comedy, Adventure, Drama

This is hardly worth talking about. Not because I didn’t like season 1, which I didn’t, but because it is like season 1 never ended. This will start up a week after season 1 ends, same time slot and everything. Personally, I couldn’t get into the show. I stayed for the first 10 episodes, but annoyed by the puzzles either being too easy or unsolvable unless you cheat, I just couldn’t stick with it. I am sure there are those that love this series, but as a frequent puzzle solver myself, I can’t stand behind it.
Shounen, Drama, Sports

I’m a huge sports fan. I keep tabs on Baseball and Hockey and pretty much any other sport, but sports animes just don’t fascinate me. So why did Ippo and Big Windup work for me? Because they got into the mindset of the players and educated on the sport, or in Ippo’s case, had many funny moments. Chihayafuru worked because of the shoujo essence it had. Basically, my wiring is weird in a way that I get enough real sports on television, that I need a sports related anime to dive much deeper into character development or make a boring game exciting for me to vest interest in it. Shunsuke Tada brings some sports anime experience having done some Prince of Tennis stuff, so as long as the series has good characterization and can’t be so heavily compared to Slam Dunk, Basuke might be a good sports anime this season.
Drama, Slice of Life, Sports

If you ever thought Mahjong was boring, never fear, you’ll be able to watch it played in an over dramatic way by a bunch of middle school girls! To be more serious, I don’t really know if I will even attempt to watch this show. There are always these kinds of game anime that I can never get behind. I tried to like Chihayafuru, but I just didn’t like it in the end. I guess if it isn’t a game I actually like, then the anime gets kind of boring. Hikaru no Go was about the only one I could sit through, which makes sense because I like playing Go. I’ve tried Mahjong before, but I didn’t like it very much. Even if I liked Mahjong, looking at the PV has me turned off still. It shows the girls doing major animated attacks to place one tile. That is going way overboard in my opinion. The characters look pretty generic too. I’m definitely going to pass on this one.
Drama, Mystery, Supernatural

I originally caught wind of this show after seeing a few pages from the manga on 4chan. The premise got me interested, however I’m also slightly wary. While there were certainly fans of Another, it was a show that made me realize I wasn’t too big a fan of melodramatic supernatural bullshit. I haven’t read the manga since I learned about the anime, so I am going into this knowing next to nothing about it other than its basic premise, but I’m going into this with a positive mindset.
Comedy, Ecchi, Sci-fi

If you think this sounds like Kannagi with aliens, then you aren’t the only one. To be honest I don’t think I will like this anime very much, but I will give it a shot. This is a very popular series and has already had 2 anime adaptations already. The first was an ONA and the second was based on a different manga adaptation from the light novels. I can’t tell you what the difference between the two are, since I haven’t seen either anime, but I can confirm that this is a separate series that isn’t a sequel. The popularity makes me want to think that there is something to the series and it might be worth watching, but I won’t put any expectations on it. I have been burned before by jumping into a popular series. Just because a lot of people like it doesn’t mean I will.
