Morita-san wa Mukuchi

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life
Air Date: 07.06.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: Morita Mayu, a high school girl. She is extremely reticent and her silence and habit of looking at people’s eyes straightly sometimes cause misunderstanding. The reason behind it is not because she doesn’t like to talk nor because she has nothing to say. The reason she rarely speaks is due to the fact she thinks too much before speaking, thus losing the timing to speak altogether. But she lives a happy school life with her classmates.
Thoughts: What I see is a generic school girl comedy. It seems like we get so many of these that they all end up blending together. There was an OVA released earlier this year, so if you really are interested in checking this out I recommend watching that first.

Usagi Drop

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Drama, Slice of Life
Air Date: 07.07.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: Thirty-three year old bachelor Diakachi Kawachi arrives at his grandfather’s funeral to find a young girl sitting in a garden. Unknown to him and the rest of his family his grandfather had an illegitimate child. Everyone bewildered by this development turns away from her unwilling to take her in. In a fit of rage over this Diakachi impulsively takes her in.
Thoughts: For some reason as soon as I saw this anime on Anidb I felt an immediate desire to watch it. Not only am I a sucker for Josei manga, but I really like the father-daughter type stories too. So this show is straight up my ally. It is also a production IG work and after Kimi ni Todoke, I am excited to see them take on another drama like it. The manga is also finished, so those awful unfinished endings that we so often find from on going manga won’t be there since they can complete the story. If you are interested in Dramas, this is the must watch of the summer season.

Blood-C

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Action, Horror, Supernatural, CLAMP
Air Date: 07.07.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: A new original anime based off of the Blood franchise with collaboration from CLAMP.
Thoughts: A lot of people might be wondering if this is worth anything, but to me I don’t have to wonder. CLAMP tends to be a very polarizing group, either people love them or they are turned off by them, there is very little middle ground for them. I am the former, I actually like CLAMP. Also I enjoyed both Blood: The Last Vampire and Blood+. This series has potential, it is a Production IG anime so you can expect HQ animation. It also features the director of the xxxHolic anime, which I was a big fan of, and it has the screenplay writer from Ghost in the Shell. To top that all it features top notch voice actors like Nana Mizuki and Keiji Fujiwara. In a world filled with crappy vampire movies, books, tv, and anime it is nice to see one that could actually be good.

No. 6

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Sci-Fi, Drama
Air Date: 07.07.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: The story is set in No. 6, a future model city in 2013. Raised as a top-ranking elite since the age of 2, a boy named Shion lives in an exclusive area in No. 6. On the night of his 12th birthday, he rescues a boy who calls himself Nezumi. Nezumi ran away from the city’s Special Security Area. From that moment on, Shion’s life is changed forever…
Thoughts: The name BONES is synonymous with the highest quality of anime and that alone makes this worth watching. It really is more than that as well. Just reading the premise I get the sense that this will be a very unique and original title. The manga started this year, so it still is a very new series. However, no matter what people say about the original FMA anime, but I enjoyed it very much and I liked the direction BONES took with it. So I am excited to see how they turn this into an anime.

The iDOLM@STER

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Music, Moe
Air Date: 07.08.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: Based off of the hit game franchise, The iDOLM@STER follows ten idols and their blossoming careers.
Thoughts: I am not a fan of the games and I am not a fan of idols. With that said, I don’t want to bash this anime. Sure it will probably be a nonsensical mess of moe filled characters with no real plot to it, but the iDOLM@STER franchise has a crazy occult like following and I don’t feel like getting stabbed.

Mayo Chiki!

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Harem
Air Date: 07.08.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: Konoe Subaru, 17, has been serving as the butler of Suzutsuki Kanade in school, a classmate of Sakamachi Kinjirou. Due to an accident, Sakamachi discovers Subaru’s secret… that he’s actually a girl!? Apparently she will be removed from her position if anyone at school finds out. What will unfold from this chain of events?
Thoughts: You can call this one of the cookie cutter harem anime that you find in most seasons. Harem-comedies rarely offer substance, but they do offer a lot of awkward situations and panty shots. However, there are two interesting points that I found when looking into this anime. First is that it has a pretty heavy cast of voice actors working on it, including Satoshi Hino, Eri Kitamura and Yuka Iguchi. Second is that it is being produced by Feel, who recently brought us the sex filled anime KissXSis and Aki Sora. Will they ramp up the ecchi in this series? Don’t know, but we can only hope.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni!

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Comedy, Action
Air Date: 07.08.2011
Episodes: 13

Synopsis: At Fumizuki Academy the students are placed into classes by their test scores and are given digital avatars based off of those scores. As the grades get worse the classroom conditions get worse. The only way to get access to the better classes is to defeat the other classes and take it from them. However, their grades also determine how strong their avatars are, which makes it that much harder to win.
Thoughts: I remember going into Baka Test season one and really not liking it too much, but by the end of the series it was one of my favorite comedies in the season it aired in. This season is devoid of great comedies and I am glad to see that there will be at least one title that I will enjoy. If you didn’t watch Baka Test season one I recommend that you give it a shot. It is a fun anime that grows on you and it just a lot of fun to watch.

Nekogami Yaoyorozu

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life, Supernatural
Air Date: 07.09.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: Yuzu Komiya runs a unique antique shop and that is because Mayu, a Nekogami (Cat God), lives there with her. Mayu’s day is filled with nothing but games and lazying around the house. Also to stir up trouble many of his God friends come and visit him from time to time.
Thoughts: I don’t have much interest in this anime. What it pretty much looks like is a chibi comedy that won’t do much more than offer episodic content with no plot to them. Almost like a kids version of Natsume Yuujinchou and Kamichu.

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Fantasy, Supernatural
Air Date: 07.09.2011
Episodes: 12

Synopsis: Taito has been really sleepy lately, and keeps dreaming of a female vampire who says she has given him her “poison.” Sometimes he even thinks he hears her voice when he’s awake. But after surviving an accident that should have killed him, Taito’s world changes drastically and he realizes that his dreams are more real than he thought.
Thoughts: This really isn’t my kind of anime. I always find it hard for these kind of anime to keep my attention, but it doesn’t mean that it will be bad. Vampires have been in for a while now and it isn’t surprising to see more of them. Although I don’t think I’ve seen a vampire magical girl type anime before.

R-15

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Harem
Air Date: 07.09.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: Akutagawa Takuto is a teenage porn novel writer. He enters Hirameki Gakuen, which accepts only geniuses with outstanding talent. He leads his classmates with his porn skills to win the interclass competition.
Thoughts: I don’t expect much from this series, but I am slightly curious about it. Not because of the premise, which is beyond stupid, but because it has both a manga and a light novel series. Sure it could be a generic harem ecchi series, which more than likely, but to have both forms and an anime coming out for it, then that means it is somewhat popular and I am curious to see why that is. I will check out the first episode, but with reservations.

Manyuu Hikenchou

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Action, Ecchi, Boobies
Air Date: 07.11.2011
Episodes: Unknown

Synopsis: It is currently the Taiheimeji Era and in this current era, breasts mean everything. If you have breasts, you are guaranteed wealth and popularity. If you lack them, you are rarely considered “human”. Members of the Manyuu Clan help raise the future big breasts. Written on a secret scroll possessed by the clan, there is said to be various techniques on how to grow big and beautiful breasts. Chifusa is to be successor of the clan. However, she takes the secret scroll and runs away with it, hoping to fight against the cruel world that the Manyuu Clan has created…
Thoughts: Action and boobs, do you need anything else? From what I understand the manga actually has a bunch of nudity in it and it is being made by Hoods Entertainment, which brought us instant skintastic classics like Seikon no Qwaser and Aki Sora. So you can expect this to be filled with tits, which is the only draw this will really have on people. I won’t be watching this, but I guarantee you I will be looking at the great screenshots that will be uploaded to the internets.

Appleseed XIII

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Mecha
Air Date: 07.13.2011
Episodes: 13

Synopsis: In the wake of the destruction of a worldwide non-nuclear war, the city Olympus has become the control center of the world. Run by Bioroids (cloned humans made from only the best DNA), it is defended from terrorists by special military forces. Among these are former LAPD SWAT member Deunan Knotts and her multipurpose cyborg partner Brialeos. They face a challenge from the Human Liberation Front and its terrorist underbelly the Argonauts. The leader of this group, Al Ceides, supposedly died 20 years ago in an attack on Poseidon, but now his shadow emerges once again.
Thoughts: If you haven’t seen the Appleseed movies, you should really check them out. Appleseed comes from the creator of the Ghost in the Shell series and it has that same sci-fi techno vibe to it. I really enjoyed the first movie and it makes me excited to see it get turned into a brand new series. I do have my reservations though. It is a full CGI series, which can be a major turn off to many anime fans. The movie worked really well in the style, but a 13 episode series just might prove too much for most.

Mawaru Penguin Drum

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Penguin
Air Date: 07.15.2011
Episodes: 24

Synopsis: New project from the director of Revolutionary Girl Utena, Kunihiko Ikuhara. The story will center around the lives of three siblings: Kanba, Shouma, and Himari Takakura, with Himari as the female main character.
Thoughts: Did I just star a penguin series? Hell yea I did! Legendary director Kunihiki Ikuhara comes back to anime to work on an original project with Brains Base and it is about a fucking penguin? Count me in! The show actually looks pretty funny. I included several several of the trailers because they are short and strange, which makes me more curious and excited about this project.

Dantalian no Shoka

[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Fantasy, Mystery, Supernatural
Air Date: 07.16.2011
Episodes: 13

Synopsis: Hugh Anthony Disward inherits an old mansion and a personal library from his grandfather. In the basement of the mansion, he meets a mysterious girl, Dalian. She is a Dantalian and a gateway to “Dantalian’s bookshelf”, which stores the prohibited books of the demons. “Gensho (Illusory Books)”, the prohibited books, endanger the balance of the world, but people are fascinated by the taboo. Hugh and Dalian solve the cases involving Gensho with their ability to access the Dantalian bookshelf.
Thoughts: This looks like Gosick, except it is a goth loli in a basement and they fight demons. Since Gosick just ended, fans will have another series to flock to. Personally, I didn’t enjoy Gosick because the mysteries sucked and the main loli was, well, too loli. This series looks better in that sense, I can’t speak for the mysteries yet, but it looks much more interesting at the very least. It also features Daiske Ono and Miyuki Sawashiro, who I enjoy a lot. By the way, did I mention that this is a Gainex project? Gainex has consistently produced anime that I have enjoyed, so it does have potential to be really good.
