With the summer season vast approaching we here at Anivision wanted to bring everyone a season preview that will cover all the anime getting ready to air. This year I am also trying something out. There are a ton of series and you might not want to view them all, which is understandable. So I am going to star the ones I recommend and I’ll try not to star a lot of them, just the best that I think are going to air.
Blade, a “Daywalker” vampire hunter who was born with vampire and human blood after a vampire attacked his mother, arrives in Japan seeking Deacon Frost, the vampire who killed his mother. While trying to find Frost he comes across “Existence,” a mysterious organization composed of vampires who have been modified.
Thoughts:
With all the Marvel anime running around I was wondering when they would get to Blade. Vampires being so popular you would think this would’ve been the first remake to come around. I probably won’t be interested in this just because I couldn’t stick with X-Men or Iron-Man, but it probably will be pretty good if you enjoyed those series.
Hasegawa Subaru enters a basketball club of Nanashiba High School, but the activity of the club gets suspended because the club leader falls in love with an 11 year old daughter of the coaching teacher. Subaru’s aunt asks him to coach a basketball club of elementary school girls. At first, he is reluctant to teach small girls, but he devotes himself to the club as he knows the complex circumstances of them.
Thoughts:
You know sports anime are running out of ideas when we get an anime about a bunch of loli basketball players. I really don’t want to watch a show about a high schooler molesting a bunch of elementary school girls. I could get arrested just for downloading this, so I am going to be keeping clear of this one.

Kamisama no Memo-chou
[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Mystery, Drama
Air Date: 07.02.2011
Episodes: Unknown
Synopsis:
Narumi Fujishima is a plain high school boy, who has been isolated in the class. His classmate, Ayaka Shinozaki, invites Narumi to the gardening club and introduces a hikikomori detective named Alice to him. Alice hires Narumi as an assistant to solve mysterious cases involving an illegal drug “Angel Fix”. Little does he know it could put him and Ayaka in serious trouble.
Thoughts:
This is the latest anime from J.C. Staff, so now a huge chuck of people hate it. As for me I have my reservations, but I will be checking it out. The show looks somewhat interesting and I am always interested in mysteries as long as they are good. The fact that they are investigating drugs puts the story on a somewhat mature level too. I’ll also admit that when I look at the image for this series on AniDB it kind of peaked my interest a bit because it had a Serial Experiments Lain vibe to it.

Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyou
[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Action, Supernatural, Fantasy
Air Date: 07.03.2011
Episodes: 25
Synopsis:
Rikuo Nura appears to be an average high-school kid. No one knows that he comes home everyday to a house full of the once fearsome yokai of legend, nor that at night, Nura transforms into the all powerful leader of these spirits. However, much to the disappointment of -well- everyone, Rikuo is determined to live as normal a life as possible.
Thoughts:
I watched the first season and enjoyed it quite a bit. This first season actually had a lot of great action sequences and comedy in it. The characters don’t stand out, but do a good job of keeping you interested in the series. The anime also got better as it went on, which makes me somewhat excited about the second season. There was one thing I did really like in the first season and that was the openings. Both openings were really good and I am hoping season two keeps that going. I am a fan of shounen and enjoyed the first season, so the second season is a given.
A “new school battle action” project by Sunrise. The tagline is “People’s memories change the world!”
Thoughts:
Amuro might be excited about this series, but I have my doubts about it. Maybe it is just that I am not into these power ranger type battle series, but this anime just doesn’t appeal to me at all. There really isn’t a lot of information about it at the moment either, just a trailer. The original concept comes from the legendary Hajime Yatate, but how much he is involved in the series remains to be seen. I will watch the first episode, but I will leave my expectations bar in a box under my bed.
Nanami Haruka wants to be a song writer, so she attends an idol training school filled with beautiful bishounen. The school pairs each aspiring songwriter with an aspiring idol, but Haruka finds herself paired with 3 idols! To make things more difficult, Nanami is also not allowed to date any of her beautiful partners!
Thoughts:
What is better than 100%? 1000%! 😀 Seriously though, I don’t find it surprising that in response to iDOLM@STER anime they release a female version based on the same thing. I am sure Xcom is ecstatic that this is coming out. If you don’t know he is the resident bishounen expert. As for me, I’ll pass on this one.
The story takes place in the second half of the 19th century, as Japanese culture gains popularity in the West. A young Japanese girl, Yune, accompanies a French traveller, Oscar, on his journey back to France, and offers to help at the family’s ironwork shop in Paris. Oscar’s nephew and shopowner Claude reluctantly accepts to take care of Yune, and we learn how those two, who have so little in common, get to understand each other and live together in the Paris of the 1800s.
Thoughts:
Have you ever thought, “You know what, I want to know more about France in the 19th Century and how Japanese culture influenced it!”? Well I haven’t and nor am I interested in it. This kind of looks like a fluffy anime and I have no interest in it. I do find it interesting that the creator of this series is also the person be hind the character designs of Gosick, so it does have that going for it.

Thoughts:
This is the show I am looking forward to the most. Not long ago I watched the first two shows and posted a review on them and the biggest complaint I had was that there wasn’t a sequel for it yet. Now there is and it will only get better. If you haven’t checked out the first two seasons now is the time to do so because they really are great.

Yuru Yuri
[Anidb] [ANN] [MAL]
Genre: Comedy, School Life, Moe
Air Date: 07.05.2011
Episodes: Unknown
Synopsis:
Four fun-loving schoolgirls take over the former room of a tea ceremony club for their own “Gorakubu” (amusement club).
Thoughts:
Looks like your standard moe anime filled with random moments and comedy. I honestly don’t expect much from this show because there will always be a lot of these shows every season after the success of K-ON these type of anime seem to be never ending. I think it speaks loud about this project that most of the people on it aren’t notable at all.
Kyouhei grew up in a small town that worships kakashi dolls as gods. Now he is grown up and moves to Tokyo to go to college. After a night he spent out at a group date he comes to find a horribly mutilated body. That is when he discovers that his friend, Aki, from the small down he grew up in was responsible for the murder and he uses a Kakashi as a supernatural weapon. Fortunately for Kyouhei his sister arrives looking for Aki also using a Kakashi.
Thoughts:
I am actually very interested in this anime. It is done by Brains Base, which has released some great titles, like Durarara!, and their animation is pretty much some of the best in the business. It is also going to star Nobuhiko Okamoto, who has been in a lot of recent works like Dreameater Merry and Ao no Exorcist. I am really starting to like him so I am glad to see him staring in another series. I think this anime has potential to be one of the better series. Looks like there will be some intense action and drama mixed in. The picture I used is a bit misleading. I would check out the trailer below if you haven’t seen it yet. It paints a much darker picture.

Thoughts:
It is what it is. A moe angel magical girl show about high school girls battling moe demon magical girls. Not my thing, but if it is yours more power to you.
